'Tal' Edwards was the known name for David John Edwards who was the eldest boy of David John Edwards and Jane Green, born on 17th December 1911. After a spell in the army he became a miner but was also known as a tough and brave man. This was displayed both in the army where he won the Distinguished Conduct Medal for bravery (see War heroes in the Family) but also by his boxing exploits. He fought at least 10 professional fights but probably lots more. He was light-weight champion of India when in the Army and also won the same title in Aldershot on his return.
In 1937 he fought 10 fights in South Wales: (Thanks to www.boxing history.org.uk for the info)
