Jane Green's father and grandfather were blacksmiths in the "Black Country"
She was always known to us as "Nana". Although severe looking she had the most beautiful blue eyes and had quite a sense of humour. She came from the heart of the "Black Country" and kept her Brummy accent until she died. Her father John Green was a blacksmith and so was his father before him .
Her mother was Rosanna Walters who came from a coal-mining family. Jane came down to South
Wales and met David Edwards who she must have taken quite a shine to as she was already engaged to a lad in the Midlands. Apparently she even had bought a wedding dress, which she later sold. Her older brother Aaron, was very cross and tried to get her to return to the midlands but in vain. Jane and David were married on 1st August 1909 and Joan (my Mam) was born on October 3rd 1925.
Jane and David had 5 children - Beatrice, David, Richard, Mary and Joan. Beatrice (Beatty) married and settled in Birmingham - David was a WW2 war hero and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal- he settled in Tir-y-Berth - Richard became a prison warden eventually settling in Winchester - Mary married Cliff Smith and settled in Blackwood and Joan (my mother) married Jack Hamer (my father).
Nana lived to the grand age of 92, passing away in the Brynheulog Nursing Home in Gelligaer
